about
In writing “Pretty”, Cassidy Taylor sought to reach those who indulge in their insecurities by comparing themselves to others. From a third-person perspective, Cassidy tells the story of a young girl who lives a difficult home life yet manages to gather jealous looks from everyone around her. With lyrics like “don’t you want it desperately? to be pretty”, Cassidy exploits her message; never judge someone based on their looks because you never know what someone else is going through. As everyone works through these difficult times, Cassidy Taylor hopes that “Pretty” can provide closure for those who are feeling deep effects of isolation.
lyrics
At the party, she’s so loud
Wearing less than all the
things she never tells you
Like when her father comes around
With the bottle he gets shallow
I guess we’ll never know
How it feels to be pretty
Everybody likes what they see
Don’t you want it desperately?
To be pretty
When she cries you hear no sound
Tries her best to get so high
then sinking down, down, down
We’ll never know
How it feels to be pretty
Everybody likes what they see
Don’t you want it desperately?
To be pretty
Nobody knows you like yourself
Looking at her she’s so good
Everyone knows her all too well
She’s so good (so good)
Nobody knows you like yourself
Looking at her she’s so good
Everyone knows her all too well
She’s so good
She’ll never know
How it feels to be pretty
Everybody likes what they see
Don’t you want it desperately?
To be pretty
To be pretty
